    There are five permanent IVV walking trails within Down District. The IVV stands for the Internationaler Volksportverband, which translated into English means the International Federation of Popular Sport. Its main aim is to encourage individuals to take part in outdoor activities. IVV routes available includes the Ballyhoman Coastal Path, two along St Patrick's Way and two through the beautiful countryside around Castlewellan in the shadow of the Mourne Mountains. Each route is a minimum of 10km long.
